Thu Aug 28: Sunshine Station: Garden Edition
If you've ever looked onto your garden and thought, Umm, you know, a little train would be nice, then this is for you. Head over to the Albuquerque Aquarium and Botanic Garden today for an in-depth discussion on garden railroading and tips on making your G-scale engine choo. Attendees 18 years or older can ask about the unique volunteer opportunities at the BioPark. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and admission is $7 for adults, $3 for seniors and children 3- to 12-years-old, and free for kids under 3. The Aquarium/Botanic garden is located at Central and New York, just east of the Central Bridge. For more info, call 764-6200. (SN)

Fri Aug 29: Art for the People
Art and activism go hand in hand--just look at political posters, propaganda T-shirts and protest songs. Art also helps preserve and empower a populous, especially here in dynamic New Mexico. West End Press, the South Broadway Cultural Center and the Harwood Art Center team up to bring the Albuquerque Cultural Conference today through Sunday. The event focuses on the indigenous rights of New Mexicans, including economic development, land and water use, border issues, and more. Tonight at 7 p.m., poets Linda Hogan, Simon Ortiz, Demetria Martinez, Levi Romero, Margaret Randall and Luci Tapahonso open the conference with a reading at the South Broadway Cultural Center (1025 Broadway SE). Admission is $11. For details, visit albuquerqueculturalconference.org. (AD)

Sat Aug 30: Fem-O-Lition
Tap into your sultry side. Tonight, Fem-O-Liton, the state's premier femme burlesque variety show, returns to the KiMo Theatre (423 Central NW). To sum it up, take a bunch of very talented and extremely awesome women, dress them up in their naughties and watch them dance, sing, joke, impersonate, tease and defy death in a flurry of sexy fun. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the KiMo box office or $15 with annoying service charges through TicketMaster. For more info, visit femmeolition.com. (SN)

Sat Aug 30: Dance and Dance and Dance
The World Dance and Percussion Festival tonight at the African American Performing Arts Center (310 San Pedro NE) is pretty darn worldly. Performers of belly dance, East Indian Bhangra, flamenco, hula, American tribal- and Afro-belly dance take the stage at 7 p.m. and will be accompanied by live master percussionists. Tickets are $15. Visit farfesha.com or call 797-8116 for tickets. (AD)

Sat Aug 30: It's OK to Wine
Stop drinking that boxed wine, fool. The New Mexico Wine Festival returns for another long weekend of "tasting" our state's many fine boozes. Most New Mexico wineries will be there, so bring a cleansed palate and some cash to swish and stock up while you can. Attractions include tons of music, art, crafts, food and watching your fellow man slip into an embarrassing drunk-dance. The festival takes place from noon to 7 p.m. today, Sunday and Monday at 243 S. Camino Del Pueblo in historic Bernalillo. Admission is $10 at the gate, $11 online (includes a commemorative wine glass), $5.50 for persons 13 to 20 years old and 50 cents for anyone younger. Oh, and those under 21 must be accompanied by a legal-age guardian, you would-be winos. ID is required at the gate. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit newmexicowinefestival.com. Sun Aug 31: I Pick, U-Pick, We all Pick for Heidi's
Heidi's jam, and the certified organic raspberry farm that produces it, is beloved at growers' markets, upscale eateries and well-stocked pantries throughout the Albuquerque area. Starting today, Heidi's Raspberry Farm is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday until the first frost for "U-Pick" raspberries--that means you can stroll its gorgeous Corrales grounds and pluck berries until your fingers turn pink. The cost for picking is $4 a pint (Heidi's will provide one pint container--bring more if you're out for a big haul), and the berry patch is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To get to Heidi's Raspberry Farm, get on Corrales Road 448, turn east on La Entrada East (just past Wells Fargo bank) and follow the signs. Visit heidisraspberryfarm.com for even more juicy details about Heidi's. (LM)
